It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s way easier to pick up than it looks. Since adding Spikeball to our league lineup in 2023, this high-energy game has sparked serious interest across our community, from total beginners to seasoned volleyball pros looking to add something new to their rotation. It’s one of the most versatile sports out there – pack it up and build it anywhere: at the beach, in the park, your backyard, anywhere.
The simplicity of the rules and the addictive pace of the rallies make Spikeball the kind of sport you try once and instantly want to play again. And while it may look tricky at first, we’ve watched players go from confused to competitive in just a few points. Best described as a mix of volleyball and four square, Spikeball is played 2v2, with teams rallying around a small circular net. The ball must bounce off the net and be returned within three touches in the air – there are no sides, no boundaries, and non-stop 360° motion. Games are quick, the learning curve is short, and rallies can get competitive fast.
From Curiosity to Core Sport
Trying a new sport can feel intimidating – but Spikeball makes it easy. Whether you’re brand new or have been playing casually with friends, we’ve got a place for you. Our two league tiers, beginner and intermediate, make it simple to find the right fit, and we’ve created short videos to help you decide where you belong. From day one, expect a welcoming environment, helpful players, and plenty of action to keep you coming back.
Over the past two years, we’ve seen a major crossover from our indoor and beach volleyball leagues, which are among our most popular sports. If you’ve ever set a volleyball or dug a spike, the hand-eye skills transfer naturally into Spikeball. It’s a different vibe, but the same fast reflexes, teamwork, and competitive edge apply – and our volleyball players are catching on quickly.
Built for Connection
Spikeball isn’t just a game – it’s a weekly hangout. Each night, you’ll play two different teams, keeping the vibe fresh and the matchups fun. With fast-paced games and frequent rotations, it’s easy to meet new people, share laughs, and feel part of something bigger. You’re not just socializing with your partner – you’re connecting with a whole community that forms naturally around Spikeball nights. High-fives, wild rallies, and sideline cheering? All part of the experience.
Out in the Community
You’ll also find us around Guelph all summer long at major local events. We bring our nets, our energy, and our crew to help teach the game to anyone willing to give it a shot. Whether it’s a quick demo or a full-blown pickup game, Spikeball has become a great way for us to connect with the city and share what we love most – play. Keep up to date with our social media accounts to see when our next event takes place.
Spikeball has officially carved out a spot in our league family, and we’re excited to see it grow each season. Whether you’re trying something totally new or adding another sport to your schedule, it’s the perfect way to stay active, social, and on your toes.
